IMPORTANT FIRE SAFETY TIPS TO AVOID A DISASTER

IMPORTANT FIRE SAFETY TIPS TO AVOID A DISASTER
In a very short amount of time, a fire can accelerate from a small flame to an out-of-control blaze. Fires destroy thousands of homes in the United States each year, so it is important for all homeowners to take steps to prevent them. It is also important to know what to do when a fire breaks out and how to control it. Research shows that almost 80% of structural fires happen in peoples’ homes or apartments. Almost all of these fires arepreventable, so fireproofing a home is the most important step to take. There is much more to fireproofing a residence than purchasing a fire extinguisher and testing smoke alarms regularly. For increased safety, consider the following suggestions:
For Bedrooms
Replace any mattresses made before 2007 with new ones. The Federal Mattress Flammability Standard was enacted then, and it was made to increase the manufacturing safety standards. Avoid using space heaters or electric blankets that are not approved by leading laboratories. Make sure electrical cords are not trapped against walls or under objects where heat commonly increases. Never put clothing or textiles on top of lamps. Make sure closets and other storage spaces do not have loose papers or other flammable materials lying around.
For the Kitchen
Never leave food unattended in the oven, on the stove or in other kitchen cooking devices. Make a habit of using timers for cooking food. Avoid leaving flammable items on kitchen counters. Paper towels, cleaning supplies, oven mitts and shopping lists should be stored in safe places.
For Appliances & Electrical Outlets
Leaving any appliance on increases the risk of a fire, so never leave the home without making sure all appliances are off. This also includes washers, dryers and dishwashers. Frequently clean stoves, change furnace filters, clean vacuum filters and empty dryer lint traps. Check the cords of fixtures and appliances frequently. If they are frayed, they should be replaced. Avoid plugging too many items into one electrical outlet or power strip. If fuses blow several times in a short time span, call an electrician immediately.
Have the home’s wiring examined frequently. This is especially important in older homes, attics and crawl spaces where insulation can be ignited by sparks.
Unfortunately, even the most careful homeowners can experience a fire. Lightning could strike, and a burning tree or bush could engulf a home in flames during a dry lightning storm. For this reason, it is important to have ample insurance coverage. Homeowners and renters should discuss these options with one of our agents.

Violent Crimes in the United States

It is safe to say that violent crime in the United States is on the rise. Despite millions of dollars allocated to prevention, a lot of people are still victimized as well as traumatized by crimes taking place every day. Almost everyone is anxious over the prospect of becoming a victim of crime. Let’s look at some statistics that give us an idea about different types of crime and violent attacks that take place here in the USA. With a population of 308,745,538 in the year 2010, the total crimes that occurred were 10,329,135. When it came to violent crime, the statistics read 1,246,248 and property crime came in at 9,082,887 reports. For murder the data read 14,748, 84,767 forcible rapes and 367,832 robberies. In terms of aggravated assaults the statistical numbers read 778,901, and other crime stats are as follows: Burglary 2,159,878, Larceny 6,185,867 and vehicle theft 737,142 respectively. Let Armorbearer Int train and prepare you.
According to the NCVS- National Crime Victimization Survey, crime takes place all the time, be it night or day. Though particular crimes reveal different patterns, violent crimes occur between 6 in the morning and 6 in the evening in about 52.7 % of cases. Simple assaults occur 57.6 % of the time throughout these same hours as does 42.2 % of aggravated assaults. Approximately 2/3rd i.e. 63.2 % of sexual or rape assaults occur at night. Property crimes mostly occur during the day except for motor vehicle theft which takes place 71.7% of the time at night. Crime, especially violent ones occur in any place at any time.
Nearly one-third i.e. 31.7% of violent crime incidents take place at or near the victim’s residence. Other common locations for crime are schools, that’s 15.1 %, commercial establishments-11.3%, parking lots and garages 7.6%. The most common crimes reported in the United States are Property Crimes. They are non-violent crimes that include larceny, burglary, theft occurring outside home and motor vehicle theft. The least common crime is Murder in the United States. Armorberer Consultants will empower you for any environment you are in.
There are quite a lot of incidences where people get robbed while walking back home or when they come home from a late night get-together. This brings us to the million dollar question, “why do people commit crime”? People commit a crime as a part of their selfish desire to get something for nothing usually or to fulfill a distorted psychological need. Their logic usually focuses on their alleged suffering at the hands of a cruel and insensitive world.
The best way to prevent an attack is to harden the target (yourself or your property) by utilizing Armorbearers insight, training and knowledge. Predators are on the hunt for easy prey, so one thing we teach is that when you’re in public, be confident, be aware, be alert and self-assured. By doing this, you give a strong presence that will for-the-most-part ward off attackers so they move onto easier targets. You also need to avoid dark, secluded places as well. If someone intends to attack you, chances are they will strike when no one’s around or looking. They are cowardly and do not want a fight or to be caught so they can enjoy the fruit of their crimes again and again.
There are various ways to spot an attacker, and one is by his body language. For instance, if you see someone afar that is walking slowly, he suddenly looks at you and speeds up towards you then his body language is of someone who is about to attack you. There are quite a lot of ways an attacker can show through his body language; this however, is most common. Some other behavioral cues are as follows: clinched fist, determined gaze, awkward posturing, swinging a leg or rubbing his head.
A targeted victim can be anyone but usually victims are not very muscular, frail, really young, elderly, insecure or distracted. Criminals generally are opportunists and attack young girls, women and people who are less likely to fight back. The psychological makeup of attackers differs from person to person. Some attackers want to commit a crime out of no reason at all other than dissidence, and they do it. While others are forced to because of easy money, hunger, poverty, mental disorder and unemployment. Personal choice governs the motives of an attacker’s action. Some attackers only rob people who are rich as they believe they are upset at their wealth and they have more to give. AISSC will teach you how to not attract unwanted attention to yourself by means of modest or unflashy clothing, jewelry, accessory, vehicle, dining choices. We will also instruct you how and where to carry your valuables.
It is not easy to recover psychologically from attacks. You need to give yourself some time to heal and let go of thoughts that remind you of the violent attack you were a part of. You may want to withdraw from others, but isolation is even worse. Talk to someone to vent out feelings of anger and sadness. You need to understand that such things won’t happen every day and every experience is a learning process.
You might feel weird walking on the same street where you were previously attacked or robbed. Resuming work after an attack can be difficult but, you need to be patient with yourself, and let yourself come out of that zone. Self talk a lot of times can help in order to get motivated to move on in life and start living normally. The most valuable training to avoid a violent attack is by learning some kind of hand–to-hand combat skill. This is one of the best ways to defend yourself and others from an attacker. It can be helpful to become proficient with a weapon as well. The most effective weapons to help prevent and prepare for violent attacks for people who are weapon savvy are as follows: pepper sprays, stun guns, tasers and kubotans.

PARKING LOT SAFETY AND AVOIDING ATTACKS

I have read many articles recently of people getting attacked in parking lots while getting into their parked vehicle. The attacks included kidnapping, rape, murder, robbery and multiple thefts. I believe a basic overview of awareness techniques is required for our readers and anyone who is interested in learning how to spot and avoid potential on coming attackers.
Move with a purpose when you are in public. Know where you are going and how to get there fast and efficiently. Be as discreet as possible so as to not draw unwarranted attention to yourself. Keep your eyes up and make sure that everyone around you knows that you are aware of your surroundings. Make brief eye contact (don’t stare down anyone like John Wayne). Say hello but don’t engage in conversation if someone is in your personal space bubble. Walk with your head up, shoulders back, and make yourself appear as confident as possible. Hopefully you learn some self-defense measures, be it weapon or weapon-less defense techniques. If you have not learned self-defense then at least appear as if you had.
Keep your phone in your pocket or purse when in public and keep your hands as empty as possible. Make sure to keep any purse or bag as small and as close to your body as possible. If you have to carry shopping bags keep them in your weak hand so you can still fight with your strong hand if needed. Always wear shoes you can fight or run in. Keep an emergency whistle or small air horn in your bag with (Safety Products) a self-defense weapon (IT DRAWS BETTER ATTENTION). Don’t assume others will help because they usually won’t. FIGHT FIRST as it is YOUR life.
Look for things that do not add up such as loiterers, drunkards, gangs or groups who do not seem to have a legitimate purpose to be in that area at that time. Avoid those people if possible, however, if you cannot avoid them then ask a store worker or security official to walk you to your vehicle. If you have a self-defense weapon then keep it legally concealed until you have to use it. Issue a prompt loud warning just before you deploy that weapon.
When you get to your vehicle, do not waste time or get distracted. Look at your surroundings in your immediate span of control for any imminent threats. Pan handlers or adjacently parked vehicles with people inside them. Always question their motive and just give yourself the best angle of attack or escape in case things get sticky with those too close to your proximity. In law enforcement we call this “Position of Advantage”.
Place your bags in your trunk, get in your car and go as expeditiously as possible. I mean you don’t have to “DUKES OF HAZARD IT” but just move fast, particularly when you feel uneasy about something. That is you’re built in SPIDEY sense telling you something is wrong. Too many times I have heard women say that they knew something felt wrong but they continued to engage their phone or put on their make-up before they got attacked. Listen to what your instincts are telling you. JOIN OUR A.G.E.N.T PROGRAM for more useful information like this.
